Location-Based Services (LBS)
Location-Based Services (LBS) are applications that ascertain the user’s physical location to provide or enhance certain services. It presents a compelling new business opportunity for application developers, operators, and content producers. It is this location awareness that separates the technology of mobile phones from similar web-based solutions.
In brief, the use of Location-Based Services (LBS) can allow MPP to locate the user of a given service and provide the service for which this information is required. The main advantage is that mobile users do not have to specify their location by providing their address (especially powerful if the user does not know this information). These services can be extremely broad reaching, with possible application being:
- Requesting the closest available outlet or service. For example, where is my nearest Post Office or Bank
- Using a ‘Buddy Finder’ service to locate a certain family member or friend
- Navigation services to assist in directions to a given location
- Empowering mobile marketing to ensure that the correct information is passed through to a customer in a specific area
These services can be broken down in two ways. Firstly, Active Location Based Services describes all services that requires the user to request information by firstly allowing their location to be used. Passive LBS describes those services that do not require the user to request the information. This is often used by parents who wish to maintain the ability to locate their child’s mobile phone.
So whether your desire is to increase the effectiveness of your advertising, or you are looking for a mobile service that requires knowledge of the users location, MPP can provide the Location-Based Services you require. Please contact us to learn more…. |
