Nick Faldo teams With MPP Global To Launch Golfing SMS Alerts
Nick Faldo, Europe’s most successful ever golfer, will launch a golf text alert service when he plays in the Open Championship later this week, thanks to MPP Global. The service, set-up by MPP Global for affinity marketing specialists Siren World Wide, will send SMS alerts to Golf fans, keeping them right up to speed with all the action at the 2002 Open Championship at Muirfield, Scotland (July 18-21, 2002).
Through the service, fans will receive updates on the state of play on 4 occasions each day with a further update on Faldo’s progress immediately after he finishes his round. “I’m very excited to be one of the first golfers to be involved in using this technology” commented Faldo.
Paul Johnson, Business Development Director at MPP Global said, “MPP Global has worked with a number of sports stars and professional teams, and the opportunity to work with Nick is certainly one of the most exciting yet. Receiving three or four text messages on each day of the open is a great way to keep in touch with all the thrills and spills.”
Craig Manson, Commercial Director of Siren World Wide said, “Siren has been very pleased to be involved in the conception, development and launch of this project, and is looking forward to applying the MPP Global technology to other sporting events and beyond”.
The service can be visited at Nick’s Official Web Site; www.faldo-golf.com.
The relationship with Faldo was brokered through sports specialist brand and business consultancy, WSM, the company responsible for the management and development of the Faldo brand.
The Open dates back to 1860 and is now in its 15th year at Muirfield, Gullane, East Lothian, home of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. The Championship will run for four days from 18th to 21st July 2002. The Event will see the biggest names in golf vying for the £700,000 winner’s cheque, and more importantly the right to call themselves The Open Champion.
Over six million viewers watched David Duval lift the famous silver claret jug after winning last year’s Open Championship. This year, all eyes will be on Faldo to see if he can achieve a hat trick by winning his third consecutive Muirfield Open.
