New Lambeth Text Service To Combat Teenage Homelessness

Lambeth council has launched a text service to raise awareness of the links between family conflict and youth homelessness.

This service, in association with MPP Global, features a video clip showing young people preparing to leave home, encouraging teenagers to talk to a Family Relations Officer if they are experiencing family conflict at home, and warns of the risks of leaving home in a crisis situation.

The text service can also be used to request a call from a Family Relations Officer, and to offer practical help to young people and their families. Support would also be given to help resolve difficulties, helping the young person stay at home, return or leave home in a planned way.

Cabinet member for housing, Cllr John Kazantzis said, ‘Family rows and disagreements can all too easily result in teenage homelessness, but with this excellent new text service, we can now offer practical support to teenagers and families, and help them work through their problems.’

To watch the video clip, text ‘LETSTALK’ to 82540. To request a call from a Family Relations Officer, text ‘CALLME’ with a name and message to 82540.
