Netflix.com Sees a Surge in Visitors as Video Streaming Takes Off
Broadcasting has changed drastically over the past few years with people now watching programming in more varied ways.
Video on Demand has become a popular method of media consumption for people all over the world, especially in the US and UK.
Broadcasters are no longer in control of the programming schedules and the power has well and truly shifted to the consumer, who can dictate when they watch their favourite movies or TV shows and how.
Thanks to the internet, companies can offer digital content to their customers through various means. One of the most popular methods isvideo streaming and there are many firms taking advantage of this, offering engaging content to subscribers.
This meteoric rise in prominence has been highlighted in the latest IMRG Hitwise Hot Shops List, which charts web traffic to retail eCommerce websites in the UK on a quarterly basis.
It found video streaming website Netflix is becoming increasingly popular with consumers, with it moving up 16 places compared to August 2012. This means it is now the 11th most visited retail site in the country.
Netflix offers consumers the opportunity to watch a show whenever they want on demand and it has taken full advantage of the latest trends in consumer technology.
For example, tablets and smartphones are both seeing a huge surge in sales in the UK and Netflix has tapped into this with its product offering.
People who subscribe to the service can view their content on whatever device they choose, be it mobile or on television. Individuals are even watching video content through games consoles such as the Wii U, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and this is likely to grow further when Sony and Microsoft release their new systems later this year.
One area Netflix does very well in is incentives. The company offers consumers a month free trial before they need to sign up. However, in order to achieve this it needed to bring in a customer relationship management system to oversee the process.
Once people hit the 30 day trigger point, payment for their first month is taken and they may then continue to watch the service.
