A Nation of Digital Shopkeepers

I was driving home when I caught an interview with Paul Zwillenberg. You might not have heard of him, but you may well have read about the research he did for Google.

In his report, Zwillenberg revealed that the Internet economy now represents 7.2 per cent of UK GDP – more than construction, transport or utilities.

There are 250,000 UK jobs in internet companies and not surprisingly, to us in the eCommerce industry, the UK is leading the way in eCommerce.

Today the UK internet economy alone is worth £100 billion a year, according to the report.

I think Zwillenberg summed it up perfectly when he said we had become a “nation of digital shopkeepers” – and I would add we have become a … “nation of digital consumers.”
