Making eCommerce Social

The movie The Social Network gives a fictional account of how student Mark Zuckerberg hit on the idea of creating the global social networking site, Facebook.

The premise of the success of Facebook seems to be that Zuckerberg had a great idea at the right time. Both of those are of course true.

Six years on, there are more than 500 million registered active users – which is some phenomenal growth rate.

You don’t have to be a genius to see how this can translate into exposure to a potential audience of 500 million. It is not a huge leap from here to assume that a fair chunk of these are also increasingly becoming internet, mobile or connected-TV consumers.

Social networking sites aren’t just a good place to keep in touch with people… they are a good place to do business too.

Companies can use sites to advertise, stream videos, target specific groups or build a community around the business – and integrated payment platforms can help facilitate this globally 24/7.
